It is important for you and your health to have regular doctor visits while on Meridia. Sibutramine has caused increased blood pressure and heart rate in some patients and if so your Doctor will need to adjust your dose or you may not be able to take this medication at all. If you are on this medication and it doesn’t seem to be working, check with your doctor but do not increase your dosage!
Important Meridia (Sibutramine) Facts:
Do not take this medication within 14 days of taking medicines that contain monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). It may cause seizures, high blood pressure and other adverse health affects.
Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. That’s not to say you can enjoy a glass or two of wine occasionally but you should avoid excess alcohol.
Common Meridia Side Effects can include:
Dizziness and/or drowsiness – when you start taking this medication be sure you know how it will affect you. Do not drive or operate machinery or any other potentially dangerous tasks until after your body is used to this medicine.
This medication may cause dry mouth and it is normal. To help combat it, use sugarless candy and gum or ice chips. If your mouth is dry for two or more weeks check with your doctor to make sure there is nothing else going on health wise.
Anxiety and irritability along with unusual impatience, nervousness and insomnia
Less Common Meridia Side Effects can include:
Chills
Irregular heartbeat
Increased blood pressure
Depression
Swelling in the feet and ankles
Achiness
Indigestion
Hot flashes
While we have listed some common and less common side effects there are still effects you may experience that are not listed. Remember if may take a couple of weeks for your body to adjust to this medication and for you to see any differences. But if you feel weird and you are unsure check with your doctor, it is always better to be safe then sorry. After all this is your health we are talking about!
